LONDON ASIAN WELFARE TRUST
REGISTERED CHARITY NUMBER : 1111785
History of L.A.W.T:
This charity was first set up by Sandra Nadarajah. It had always
been a lifelong ambition of hers to dedicate her life to a
charitable cause and finally the opportunity arose to bring
together a group of compassionate and very supportive volunteers
to this cause and who eventually formed our group of trustees.
Trust's Aims & Objectives:
Our trust is a charity organisation working to help disadvantaged
women, children and the elderly and is particularly aimed at
helping those who have suffered domestic violence as well as those
suffering from bereavement and other misfortunes. Our trust aim is
to form guidance and confidential support to those families and
especially children affected by domestic violence and whom feel
isolated and detached from society. Our aims are to highlight and
challenge violence against women and children; empower them to
gain more control over their lives. This is essentially why we
will work in close liaison with other charitable organisations
that work to promote this object and also those with close
connection with victims of the Tsunami disaster and the South Asia
Earthquake.
Domestic violence is so unmentionable that it seems not to exist
in the Asian community. It isn’t talked about, it isn’t
revealed and it certainly isn’t tackled. There are few available
community support groups, and many Asian women are reluctant or
too fearful to seek mainstream help.
Trust Activities:
We manage a resource centre in Edgware that provides a
comprehensive service to those experiencing violence and abuse. We
offer advice, information, and self-help support services. We give
classical dance and vocal lessons to promote our vast and vibrant
Asian culture. We are also going to start English, Mathematics and
Science classes for children aged 6 and over and also Computer IT
and Yoga classes for adults commencing from January.
Our Charity Moto and Poem:
Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.
Life is beauty, admire it.
Life is bliss, taste it.
Life is a dream, realise it.
Life is challenge, meet it.
Life is a duty, complete it.
Life is a game, play it.
Life is a promise, fulfil it.
Life is sorrow, overcome it.
Life is a song, sing it.
Life is a struggle, accept it.
Life is an adventure, dare it.
Life is luck, make it.
Life is too precious, do not destroy it.
Life is Life, fight for it!
-Mother Teresa-
